Tonight – St George’s is back on University Challenge! (18 Feb)

St George’s University Challenge team go head to head with Pembroke College, Cambridge, in the first round of the quarter-finals. The team needs to win two quarter-final matches to secure a place in the semi-finals.

The show, which has already been recorded, will be aired tonight, Monday 18 February, BBC2, at 8pm.

This appearance follows a barnstorming performance in the second-round clash last December, where the St George’s students scored 230 points to the University of Lancaster’s 140. Their route to the quarter final began with a 175-145 victory over King’s College, Cambridge in the first round back in July 2012.

The team comprises captain Rebecca Smoker, a first-year graduate-entry medical student, who will be joined by fellow MBBS4 students Sam Mindel and Alex Suebsaeng, and MBBS5 student Shashank Sivaji. Bruce Liu, another on the MBBS4 course, is the team reserve.
