Natalie’s Casebook: an experiment in biomedical education.

Natalie’s Casebook is an biomedical education website run by Dr James Moffatt, a senior lecturer in physiology at St George’s University of London.

Structured in a style similar to case-based or problem-based learning, but filtered through ‘Natalie’, a junior doctor coping with acute medical practice, it is aimed at medical students at all levels of their education.

There are currently four modules available: Respiratory, Renal, Cardiovascular and Pharmacology, with cases for each module. Picking a case to view, will lead to case notes and relevant tags. There are two types of tags  ‘Basic Knowledge’  tags for early year students and ‘Clinical Knowledge’  for later years students. Tags lead to pop-up windows with further information.

The website has a clean and easy to use layout, it works well on mobile devices. It is currently a work in progress and mainly respiratory-related, but  new cases with more cardiovascular content will be added over the next month or two. Dr Moffatt’s plan is to eventually summarise most physiological areas.
