How can academics use Twitter?

There are a wealth or resources on the Web now regarding the use of Twitter in academia; below are just three but should prove very useful to anyone wanting to find out more.

The LSE Public Policy Group have written a very useful guide “Using Twitter in university research, teaching and impact activities – A guide for academics and researchers”  (Sept 2011) and is available to download. Topics covered include: getting started, writing styles and possible uses eg by researchers, in teaching, communicating with colleagues.

Dorothy Bishop, Professor of Developmental Neuropsychology at Oxford University has also written an excellent post on her blog entitled “A gentle introduction to Twitter for the apprehensive academic“.

Last month Dr Ernesto Priego wrote about the impact of social media in HE in the Guardian – “How Twitter will revolutionise academic research and teaching“.
